Friday Ping

So last night, a reporter and the staff photographer (two of the remaining 20 staff of the old Seattle P-I now assigned to the online version) came out to the house to interview TFMD, the kids and myself. It was a bit surreal, reliving everything and basically taking a stranger on the tour of my house and the last five years of my life.

Rae's intent was to follow-up on the original P-I article and let people know how things had changed for the better for my family - a sort of epilogue and "thank you" to the community who propped us up when we were at our lowest. It ended up being that, and so much more.

Thanks for that, baby.

The week has been a mix of fatigue and joy, much work and a little play (like Wednesday evening's sessions of The T-Shirt Game and Apples to Apples with Raechelle & the kids). My grandmother is facing another surgery. And tomorrow kicks off the second Duo short shoot at Emerald City Comicon. Oh, and Sunday, I've been asked to shoot the full-band set of Kirby Krackle at ECC.

Tonight, however, while my fiancee is off having a birthday dinner with (and for) her Best Lady, I am going to go see The Underpants. Gotta support the Twelfth Night homeys.

Another stupidly busy weekend. I gotta knock this crap off.

Friday Time

Well my friend Dave Beach is through his surgery and in recovery. That's one hurdle cleared.

It's been a crazy busy couple days. Auditioning actors, designing graphics for the short film, driving a friend to bail out his impounded car. TFMD orchestrated the schedule and got the kids all signed up for Tai Kwon Do at our local studio. The list goes on.

And of course, there's been a rash of Facebook meme-tagging going on, specifically designed to make designers get less done. The thing I worry about with the whole random CD cover meme is the photo copyright. The text for the challenge should say that the photo owner reserves all rights and the CD cover should be removed if asked by the copyright holder. I should add that.

Coming up on another weekend. Going to see Always... Patsy Cline at ACT on Saturday. Our friend Don (husband of Marcia) plays guitar in the show. Sunday we are hosting an Oscar party. TFMD is wearing a black dress, while I am going all rockstar, with an open white embroidered shirt and charcoal gray jacket.

We also have some potentially exciting news on the Buzzkill Bride front, but we need to get some ducks in a row first and not jinx the heck out of it.

Very much looking forward to a leisurely happy hour this afternoon. Yay.

Oh, PSBTW, it's been getting back to me that some of our readers missed where I spelled out what TFMD means (including my own aunt). Here is the post in question. It's a little asterisked footnote. Don't blink, or you might miss it.

Here Comes the Sun

And I say it's alright.

Thank you, George Harrison, for the perfect opening to this here blog post.

Went and had dinner at Old Spaghetti Factory last night. That was nice. Two doses of NyQuil and a full night's sleep later, I'm doing pretty well. Taking my supplements and popping the herbal Ricola.

Some new personal insights have popped up during the introspection that comes with any new relationship. All of them good, or at least not bad. Been listening to lots of atmospheric electronic music (some of it with ethereal hindi female vocals), so I'm in a very transcendental mood anyway.

Whatever works, right?

I think I may be bracing a bit. There are two huge areas of my life where storms are gathering. And although the storms are ultimately what will propel me forward in life, there's a certain amount of apprehension - "Jeez that's a big friggin' storm!" You get it. They're good storms, as opposed to the ones my family and I have weathered for 6 years (from Sam's diagnosis to the present). But any potential new surge in energy is rightfully cause for bracing.

I may actually have enough energy to trim back the trees in the front yard so that folks can get to my door. Mowing may well be another issue altogether.

Watched The Good Girl yesterday. Although the film was technically well-executed and had a talented cast, the story was about characters who make chronically bad decisions. I hate films like that because I have a darn near impossible time identifying with anyone in the story. So while I'm a big fan of John C. Reilly and Jake Gyllenhaal, the film is decidedly... meh. Kinda how I felt about Waitress too, as nicely as it was executed. A fantastic John C. Reilly vehicle is Criminal (with Jake's big sister, Maggie). Highly recommend that.

Big weekend ahead. Ann's birthday dinner tonight, brunch with Raechelle's godparents on Saturday, and a trip to the Bainbridge winery on Sunday. Just taking it one relaxed step at a time.
